Curettage Treatment for Plantar Warts and Corns
Curettage treatment is a pivotal aspect of my practice, particularly when addressing plantar warts and corns. This technique involves the precise removal of these growths from the sole of the foot. It’s crucial due to the discomfort and pain caused by these conditions, significantly impacting an individual’s daily activities. By meticulously eliminating plantar warts and corns through curettage, I aim to enhance patients’ overall well-being, allowing them to walk and stand comfortably without the hindrance of these troublesome foot issues.
Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA)
Overview
Partial Nail Avulsion, commonly known as PNA, is a minor surgical procedure used to treat certain nail conditions, most commonly persistent or recurring ingrown toenails.
The procedure involves removing only the problematic section of the nail while preserving the unaffected portion.
When May a PNA Be Recommended?
A PNA may be recommended when an ingrown toenail causes ongoing pain, swelling, infection or repeated episodes that have not responded to conservative treatment.
The Procedure
1. Local Anaesthetic
A local anaesthetic is administered to numb the affected toe and ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible.
2. Partial Nail Removal
The affected section of the nail is carefully removed to relieve pressure and irritation.
3. Matrix Treatment, if Required
In some cases, treatment may be applied to the nail matrix to help prevent the removed section of the nail from growing back.
4. Dressing and Aftercare
The toe is dressed following the procedure, and you will receive clear aftercare instructions to support healing and reduce the risk of complications.
Total Nail Avulsion (TNA)
Overview
Total Nail Avulsion, or TNA, is a procedure involving the removal of the entire toenail. This treatment is generally considered when the condition affecting the nail is more severe or when other treatment options have not been successful.
When May a TNA Be Recommended?
A Total Nail Avulsion may be considered for conditions such as:
- Persistent or recurring nail infections
- Severe nail deformities
- Significant nail damage
- Other complex nail conditions where complete nail removal is considered appropriate
The Procedure
1. Local Anaesthetic
A local anaesthetic is administered to ensure the toe is numb and comfortable during the procedure.
2. Total Nail Removal
The entire affected toenail is carefully removed.
3. Dressing and Aftercare
The area is cleaned and dressed, and detailed aftercare instructions are provided to support healing.
Follow-Up Care
Follow-up appointments may be recommended to monitor healing and address any concerns during recovery.
Choosing the Right Treatment
Both Partial Nail Avulsion and Total Nail Avulsion are established treatment options that may be recommended depending on the type and severity of your condition.
The most suitable treatment will depend on several factors, including your symptoms, the condition of the nail and your individual circumstances.
If you are experiencing persistent nail pain, recurring ingrown toenails or other nail-related concerns, the team at My Foot Care can assess your condition and discuss the most appropriate treatment options for you.
